Who we are

Cash Van Buyer ("we", "us") is the data controller for personal information collected through cashvanbuyer.co.uk.

You can contact us about your data on WhatsApp.

What we collect

  • Vehicle details — registration, mileage, vehicle type, condition and anything else you tell us.
  • Contact details — your name, phone number, email address and postcode.
  • Sale details — if you sell to us: identity documents, the registration document (UK V5C or other proof of ownership), finance settlement details and the bank details needed to pay you.
  • Technical data — standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) kept by our hosting provider for security.

How we use it and why

  • To value your vehicle and contact you about our offer — because you asked us to (steps before entering a contract) and our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.
  • To buy, collect and pay for your vehicle — to perform our contract with you.
  • To keep records, prevent fraud and meet legal obligations such as tax, anti-money-laundering and DVLA requirements — legal obligation and legitimate interests.

We do not sell your data and we do not use it for unrelated marketing.

Who we share it with

Only where needed: our website hosting and email providers; the DVLA when the keeper changes or a vehicle is registered; your finance company if there is outstanding finance; vehicle history check providers; and professional advisers or authorities where the law requires it.

How long we keep it

If you do not sell to us, we keep your enquiry for up to 12 months and then delete it. If you do sell to us, we keep transaction records for six years to meet tax and legal requirements.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, object to or restrict how we use it, or ask for a copy to take elsewhere. Contact us using the details above. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
